"I'd like to welcome all of you here today to this press conference in regards to the upcoming season. I feel that the Minnesota Wild organization has turned itself around and ready for another memorable run as we did in 2002-03. The last couple of seasons we been buzzing around the bottom of the league rebuilding and getting solid young guys in trades as well as the drafts. I feel that the scouting staff as done an exceptional job the last couple years and all players picked will have bright futures in Minnesota. In this past offseason we have acquired many great players that will help bring this team make to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Minnesota Wild will be a top contender in the league this upcoming season I feel and so does the rest of this wonderful staff. Since the end of the playoffs we went out and made sure we used our budget to the fullest by picking up stars like Kyle Calder, Nick Boynton, Radek Dvorak, Tyler Arnason, and Patrick Marleau. We said goodbye to Marek Svatos, Brent Burns, Jason Arnott, but we feel we still made our team much better although we lost those guys who have been so loyal to this organization. Finally we will see the emergence of our #1 prospect A.J. Thelen and hopefully he will help this team and become one of the top defencemen in the league. Also on a sad note we say goodbye to Joe Sakic and Dave Andrechuk due to retirement. Minnesota will respect Joe Sakic and let him retire his jersey number witht he team he was with so many seasons, the Colorado Avalanche. However Dave Andrechuk's jersey will be retired on our home opener and we will give a pregame speech. Lastly I would just like to announce our new captain, Patrick Marleau.
Thanks all for coming and we won't disappoint
On another note, GM Buono has signed a contract extension through the 2009/2010 season, which will probably end up being his last. Don't worry that is still ways away.
