*GM Ang Buono walks into the press conference room*
"Welcome here today everyone for our beginning of the season press conference. The season started already four days ago and we started off the year with 2 wins both on the road, where we were horrid last year. I have a couple things to talk about and then will entertain questions. First off we welcome back much of the same team that are Northwest Division Champions from last year, just a more talented group with more chemistry. I really believe we have one of the premier clubs this year and think we have a shot at the Stanley Cup. We lost some key guys from last year in Marc Chouinard and John Leclair to retirement, but we brought in talented forward Dustin Boyd to help us out. Also Stephane Veilluex and Rickard Wallin will be developing Eric Carrier and James Hubert, our two sensational rookies all year and make them great players just like everyone else in this organization. Patrick Marleau will be our Captain for this year and we also welcome back Chris Phillips who played his last game in November before going down with a severe ankle injury. He will be named our Assistant Captain along with Tyler Arnason. We expect big things from our second year players in Joe Finley and Calder Trophy runner-up Neil Buchberger. This should be a great year for our organization and hopefully we can bring this city it's first Stanley Cup in franchise history."
Q: "Who do you see as your most precious jewel on this team."
A: "Everyone on this team is a precious keystone to this organization in one way or another. All these guys go out there and give it 110% every night and all produce points when they are needed. This is a great team and everyone will have lots of ice time. We are one of the few teams that run and have 4 solid lines and will use them all to get the job done."
Q: "After a strong couple starts when he was put in net last year, can Jeff Glass expect to be the starter."
A: "Well Jeff was astonishing last year and he will see more than 12 starts this year and that is for sure. However Marty Turco after a tough season and playoffs will be looked to once again to be our starting goalie and lead us to the playoffs. We pay him the big bucks for a reason and it seems as if he put last season behind him.
Q: "Who do you feel will be tough opponents throughout the year in your conference and in the Eastern Conference and who do you think will compete for your defence of the Northwest Division Title."
A: "Well it's hard to say. So many team have changed this year and this should be an unpredictable season. In our conference you have to say that Anaheim is the odds-on favourite to win the President's trophy and the Stanley Cup again. They are the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champions and they look amazing again this year. As for the other Conference I will say Montreal looks very tough as they have so many times in the past. With Dany Heatley and Alex Tanguay leading the way, that will be a tough team to stop. As for our divsion I would say Edmonton since they are always challenging and have won it the previous two years before we took it last year. Also Vancouver was strong at the end of last year and will be tough to play this year and think they can win it also. Colorado and Calgary are more in a rebuilding stage , but they can come out on top too as anything can happen in the GCHL."
Thanks for coming.
